The Big Read is an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) designed to revitalize the role of literature in American culture and bring the transformative power of literature into the lives of its citizens. The Big Read in Milwaukee will focus on Harper Lee’s American classic To Kill a Mockingbird.
The Rep is working with community partners listed below to host events between September 2011 and March 2012. Our collaborative efforts focus on youth (middle school and high school ages) and lapsed or reluctant adult readers. We aim to encourage reading and add to the awareness and appreciation of literacy in our community, as well as to provide a platform for discussion about the themes of the novel that remain relevant in our society today.
